Cognitive stimulation is one of the most used non-pharmacological interventions in older adult populations. Many studies that evaluate its effectiveness present methodological biases and weaknesses that lead to overestimation of the treatment effect, making it difficult to conclusively attribute the improvements observed after the intervention. The objective of this work was to carry out a critical review of recent studies written in Spanish language, through a comparative analysis in which eight quality indicators were applied. The search and screening process resulted in a selection of eleven studies. The results show that only 27.3% of the selection meets the eight evaluated criteria. In this regard, 45.5% of the studies do not describe the intervention implemented, and neither the characteristics of the sessions, and 63.6% has an insufficient sample size to guarantee reliable treatment effects. Although the potential benefits of cognitive stimulation seem to be evident, rigor and commitment must be prioritized in the development of research, in order to minimize biases, reinforce methodological quality, allow replication, and respond satisfactorily to current scientific demands.
