Relación entre la inteligencia emocional percibida y el comportamiento de riesgo en el ámbito de la salud

Resumen

El objetivo de la presente investigación fue estudiar la relación existente entre la inteligencia emocional percibida y la probabilidad de implicarse en comportamientos de riesgo en el ámbito de la salud. El estudio involucró una muestra de 219 participantes con edades comprendidas entre los 18 y los 59 años, los cuales informaron de sus habilidades percibidas en inteligencia emocional mediante la escala Trait-Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS) y de la probabilidad de participar en comportamientos de riesgo en el ámbito de la salud mediante la escala Domain-Specific Risk-Taking Scale (DOSPERT-30). Nuestros resultados revelaron que las habilidades de claridad y reparación emocional se relacionan de manera inversa con las conductas de riesgo en el ámbito de salud. Además, una relación directa entre las habilidades de atención y claridad emocional, y entre claridad y reparación emocional fue observada. Por último, la edad de los participantes fue inversamente relacionada con la asunción de conductas de riesgo, y diferencias de género fueron encontradas en atención emocional (mujeres mostraron mayores niveles de atención a las emociones). De estos resultados se deriva que las habilidades en inteligencia emocional percibida (claridad emocional y reparación emocional) pueden funcionar como amortiguador en la asunción de riesgos que atentan contra la salud y la integridad física, tales como mantener relaciones sexuales sin protección, conducir un vehículo en estado de embriaguez, la conducir un vehículo en estado de embriaguez, la obesidad, etc. Se discuten las implicaciones clínicas del entrenamiento en estas habilidades.
