Abstract

This article explains the methodology and the main goals, achievements and results of the First Violence against Women’s Survey in Catalonia, performed in 2010. It was led by the Home Affairs Department of the Catalan Goverment, the Women’s Catalan Institute and the Women’s Department of Barcelona’s City Council, but many other economic, political and social actors collaborated as well. Its results show the extent of the phenomenon in general and also in each specific area discussed, and it confirms that women’s and men’s perceptions and values are different. This survey also contributes to stablish tools to measure the evolution of violence against women and the effectiveness of policies created to eradicate it.
