Inmate misconduct events carried out by inmates represent rule infractions. They have been studied in developed countries, but not in developing countries. The goal of the study is to present a conceptual framework that describes the relationship between administrativecontrol theory variables and inmate misconduct. For this purpose, 3 hypotheses are tested. A questionnaire was applied to a sample of 129 inmates from CERESO Hermosillo I in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the inmates’ perception of communication and legitimacy of the authorities have influence as predictors of inmate
misconduct due to their impact on the organizational breakdown.
