This paper discusses some results of the evaluation of the “Colmenas” Community Centers Program of the Government of Zapopan, which aimed to provide public space to marginalized communities in the municipality. Although the objective of these centers was to increase the cohesion of the communities, the design of the property followed the principles of Crime Prevention Trough Environmental Design. Therefore, this work has analyzed the observed effects of these centers on indicators of fear of crime. The results show that the main beneficiaries of interventions that generate quality public spaces are women and that this is possibly one of the most promising avenues when it comes to designing strategies for the social prevention of violence.
