Sabotaje: A Demythologizing History of the Paris That Surrendered to the Nazis

The precise description of a time and place is essential to recreate its atmosphere, show the mechanisms of power and recreate the tensions and conflicts that are generated there (Harvey). In the case of spy fiction, it means presenting a critique of injustices and inequalities, including those related to governments and their clandestine histories (Castellet, Seed). The atmosphere of the Paris of the Popular Front recreated in Sabotaje demystifies the popularized vision of a people fighting against the Nazis who, in reality,
are destined to give up their freedoms, accept the invader and, in some cases, even become their accomplices. The aim of this work is, first of all, to explore the problems of historiography when representing the past (Eco, Koselleck, White), especially when
it is a painful past and the consequent tendency to mythologize it (Wright, Seniavskii and Seniavskaia), the similarities between historical and literary discourse (Iglesias, Montaner) and the importance of the way in which the atmosphere of a place is recreated
(Geherin, Lutwack, Montaner). Secondly, it analyzes the resources used by Pérez-Reverte to demystify that era, fleeing from the binaries of good and bad present in collective memory (Seniavskii and Seniavskaia).
