Américo Castro: The Conflict and the Guilt
Keywords:
Américo Castro, Essay, Historical debate, History of SpainAbstract
This paper aims to analyze Américo Castro’s controversial ideas about Spanish history, opposed to any traditionalist interpretation, as the construction of a world in constant conflict. Castro felt the need to explain the tragic present from a better understanding of the past and assume a feeling of guilt shared by his entire generation. His historical work is examined in this article from the point of view of the impact that the historical circumstance itself had on the author.
