Here is a new critical edition of the Latin comedy by the humanist Juan de Valencia on the biblical parable of the Lost Son (Lk 15.11-32). This edition is based on the only two existing ones prior to ours: that by J. López de Toro (1971) and that one by J. Alonso Asenjo (2007). We also add a translation, the fi rst to be made in Spanish, along with numerous annotations in order to aid in its reading. Juan de Valencia’s work offers an important example of a Latin school comedy from the mid-16th century. Although it was built on the biblical text, it shows interesting
resonances of Latin classics, especially Terence. It was represented in Malaga outside of the great university centers of its time).
