The name Sisymbrium laevigatum Willd. has had various interpretations over time, the location of original material and the typification of the name make it possible to definitively fix its application and the circumscription of the species. Willdenow’s name is typified from an original specimen preserved at HBG. In addition, as Willdenow’s name has been related to Sisymbrella, a nomenclatural review of that genus is made. Lectotypes are designated from material conserved in herbaria G, HBG, LINN, LY, MA, MPU, and P, for the following names: Nasturtium boissieri Coss., Nasturtium munbyanum Boiss. & Reut., Rorippa aspera var. sublaevis Maire, Rorippa boissieri f. micrantha Maire, Sisymbrella aspera subsp. praeterita Heywood, Sisymbrium asperum f. stenocarpum Pau, Sisymbrium asperum var. minus L.C. Lamb., Sisymbrium bursifolium L. and Sisymbrium pseudoboissieri Degen ex Hervier. An epitype is designated for the name S. aspera subsp. praeterita.
