Aid to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria

Abstract

Puerto Rico, after ninety years without receiving the lashes of a devastating atmospheric phenomenon, on September 20 received hurricane Maria, which left the island destroyed. This hurricane has been catastrophic for the country, leaving it without the basic services of water and electricity and without any communication. The government expects the electrical system to be lifted for a minimum of six months, however, the hurricane season begins in June 2018. Maria collapsed bridges, main roads, destroyed roads, left the island without its emerald green, color that distinguished it. Maria depth not only in the vegetation but in the heart and soul of Puerto Ricans. At the moment, the number of deaths is not exactly accurate, but an estimate of death toll is around 1,052. The devastation of this hurricane has been such that the estimated amount of economic losses its all of Puerto Rico’s economic output in a year. In these moments the country is trying to recover, rise and move forward. Everything is and will be possible with all the aid received, not only internal, but international, aid from organizations and foundations. It is time to bet for the tourism for Puerto Rico as Iberia has done by launching the route for summer 2018 and for having it as a destination offering on all its routes.
