The greater or less protagonism of the subjects that interact within the formulation of development models characterize and delineate the goals that guide the planning of social progress. The short and medium term objectives, from the emphasis placed on the increase of GDP to the achievement of equal opportunities and human welfare, strongly reveal the principles that guide economic theory in this regard. In this line, the gender perspective provides a key element to analyze the thinking implemented since the fifties of the last century.
Although it is not our objective to elaborate this idea in detail, between the Economic Growth Focused Model and the Human Resource Expansion Model, we will reflect on the tendencies to visualize the contribution of the gender approach to the design of more inclusive paradigms. From the WID perspective, which emphasizes the importance of the variable sex, to the GAD, which promotes equality of opportunity through the rebalancing of power, stronger models will be proposed, since these, in a reciprocal way, have legitimized the coverage of women’s strategic interests and women’s empowerment.
