Bernardo de Galvez, Louisiana, War of Independence of the Thirteen Colonies, Spain’s roleAbstract
The accurate evaluation of Bernardo de Galvez’s work, whose performance as Governor of Louisiana will herein be referred to, requires special consideration of the following factors: the prevailing mentality during the last third of the Eighteenth Century; the political coordinates dominant at that time; the resources at his disposal; and the dimensions of the scenario in which it occurred. This way we shall also be able to understand the consideration that American historiography has given to Spanish contribution to the independence of the Thirteen Colonies.
