Abstract

The article, considering the Roman Oriental rule, especially that of Syria, analyzes and proposes first data and sources about techniques of siege and about characteristics of the Roman and Sassanian army regarding the fortress of Dura Europos, and then
attempts a reconstruction of the fall of the city taking as literary parallel the similarities of the fall of Amida (IV AD) described by the historian Ammianus, which could be found in the archaeological context of the site.
