Abstract

The objective of the present study was to analyze the differences in passing relationships and movements made between the Qualified and Non-Qualified teams for the final stage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. To do so, 64 football matches were analyzed in order to evaluate the differences in technical-tactical performance among the 32 participating teams and 727 players. The analysis included technical-tactical variables related to passes and movements made (e.g., through pass, etc.). R-Studio was used for data analysis. The Mixed Linear Models showed that goals (p < .01) and support runs (p < .05) were significantly higher in Qualified teams compared to Non-Qualified teams. In general, it was observed that Qualified teams made a higher number of passes toward their nearby lines, opting for more elaborated plays than Non-Qualified teams.
