This article argues that: (1) there are real possibilites of applying the notion of common good to the educational sector, (2) it could be more relevant to focus on the quality of edu-cation in order to construct context-based indicators and, (3) as the idea of common good stresses “collective virtues”, it would be relevant to take into account the policy of social/parental in Mexico. This approach could help understand Mexico ?s educational problems more broadly.
