Abstract

Mediterranean coastal lagoons constitute shallow bodies of water, with variable salinity and volume, which can be totally or partially separated from the sea by sandbanks, gravel, or even rocks. Regarding salinity, their waters oscillate between the category of “brackish” and “hypersaline” as a result of a characteristic hydrological regime and water balance.
