Influence of physical activity on diet quality and sleep quality in adults

Adequate diet quality, regular physical activity, and adequate sleep have been shown to prevent unhealthy weight gain and associated chronic diseases. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the level of physical activity in adults and its influence on the quality of the diet and the quality of sleep in Paraguayan adults through the correlation between the results of the IPAQ-SF and the quality of the diet and the report of hours of daily sleep. To determine the correlation between the level of physical activity with the quality of the diet and the quality of sleep, the Spearman test was used. A total of 197 people were evaluated, of which 64% were female. The average age was 32.21 ± 9.9 years. 35.5% of the population had a moderate level of physical activity. The quality of the diet was unhealthy in 70.5%. 73.1% had insufficient hours of sleep. A high correlation was found between physical activity and diet quality (r=0.770) and sleep quality (r=0.779). The quality of the diet in the Paraguayan adult population is unhealthy and the hours of sleep are insufficient. Physical activity has a positive influence on the quality of the diet and the quality of sleep.
