Perception of effort low carbohydrate intake protocol in amateur cyclists

Introduction: An optimal intake of carbohydrates allows good performance and recovery in endurance sports such as road cycling. Objective: To evaluate the perception of effort according to the criteria of "the Borg scale" under the implementation of nutritional support that individually controls the intake of carbohydrates before and during a 4-hour resistance training. in amateur cyclists. Materials and methods: An evaluative investigation was carried out, with two moments of transversal measurement; one without nutritional accompaniment and a second moment, with a food prescription for before and during a workout. For this purpose, 8 recreational cyclists from the city of Medellín were selected for convenience. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in the perception of effort after the carbohydrate prescription for before and during, compared to the perception of effort obtained prior to said prescription. Conclusion: As the main finding, metabolic and composition variables were identified that can be taken into account in future interventions to establish physiological and nutritional correlations in endurance sports.
