The main purpose of this research is to identify the main socioeconomic needs of the Región Brunca and student expectations of the study programs offered by the Universidad Nacional, Sede Regional Brunca in order to establish the relevance of the current academic programs. A case study was used as a research design in which two groups of students participated, 31 high school students and 500 university students. Data were also obtained from a documentary analysis that included a press dossier and an employability dossier. Some of the results indicate that in the region agribusiness and tourism offer opportunities for socioeconomic development and English predominates as the most used foreign language due to its role in tourism. With respect to the demand of future students, health sciences and engineering are the areas that most interest them. The results suggest that the Agri-Food Quality and Innovation Engineering major is the most relevant degree offered at this time. The need to offer more careers related to the agroindustrial area was identified. There is also a need for a greater number of Minor degrees in English and the creation of careers at the technical level. Finally, the region demands careers in Health Sciences and Wellness, Agroindustry and Project Management.
