Abstract

This new subject, which was taught for the first time in the 2008-2009 school year in the 1st year of Baccalaureate, is proving to be a challenge for both teachers and students. In relation to the teaching staff, this subject can be taught by teachers assigned to the Physics and Chemistry or Biology and Geology Departments. In relation to the students, one of the characteristics is that the subject is common to all baccalaureates. This is new for science teachers, who will have to teach the subject to students with very disparate scientific backgrounds, because science subjects are mandatory until the 3rd year of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education). In the 4th year of ESO, both Biology and Geology and Physics and Chemistry become optional, which allows students who opt for a Social Sciences or Humanities Baccalaureate not to have studied sciences since the 3rd year of ESO
