Abstract

Synthetic Biology is a relatively new discipline for which there are a large number of definitions, although practically all of them incorporate the ideas of molecular biology, genetics, and engineering. For many scientists, it involves rearranging natural DNA sequences, generating artificial constructs or gene networks that have a behavior not existing in nature and of an applied nature. Philosophically, it is very similar to Systems Biology, as it also tries to integrate descriptive biology into a mathematical framework using models and simulations.
