Abstract

Wetlands constitute complex ecosystems that offer aquatic birds suitable and necessary environments for resting, feeding, and nesting. In turn, aquatic birds play important roles in these ecosystems, such as consumption (herbivorous and carnivorous), contribution of organic matter and nutrients, physical modification of the habitat, or active transport of organisms between lagoons. This highlights the interdependence between aquatic birds and wetlands, and the crucial role each plays in maintaining the health and balance of these ecosystems
