About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Encuentros en la Biología (ISSN 1134-8496) is an interdisciplinary scientific dissemination journal edited by the University of Málaga. It publishes original contributions quarterly (spring, summer, autumn, winter) that fall within the realm of biological sciences and other sources of scientific knowledge; that is, experimentally tested knowledge backed by at least one primary source of documentation. It also accepts the publication of biographies of relevant authors, book reviews and specialized works, cover images, the section "The Commented Image" and other specialized sections, as well as news, communications, and events related to biology.

The editorial board will positively evaluate contributions presented in a friendly and accessible format for students and teachers of all areas of biology, as well as the presentation of the latest scientific developments in this field.

Encuentros en la Biología is an open dissemination forum for all those interested in submitting their contributions. Contributions must comply with the editorial policy and the guidelines outlined in "Instructions for Authors." The journal reserves the right to make any modifications in form and design it deems appropriate.

Publication Frequency

Encuentros en la Biología publishes four issues per year (March, June, September, and December).

Open Access Policy

The journal Encuentros en la Biología promotes open access to its contents, upholding the principle of guaranteeing free access to research for all, which undoubtedly will greatly enhance the free circulation of ideas and exchanges on a global scale.

Contributions published in Encuentros en la Biología are under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. All material included in our database can be used, distributed, transmitted, and publicly displayed, provided that:

  1. Authorship and the original source of its publication (journal, publisher, and URL of the work) are cited.

  2. It is not used for commercial purposes.

  3. The specifications of this license are mentioned.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

Authors are not required to pay article processing charges (APC) in this journal.

Plagiarism Policy

Encuentros en la Biología maintains an anti-plagiarism policy that ensures all published works are original by professionally applying Crossref Similarity Check services from iThenticate to scan all submissions. We use the service for all documents that have passed the editorial classification process and are likely to be sent for blind peer review.

The journal reserves the right to reject articles with an inappropriate similarity percentage. We also have specific plagiarism detection tools such as Unicheck, an open-access platform that monitors originality and controls plagiarism.

Digital preservation policies

All of our electronic content (website, manuscripts, etc.) is stored on several sources. Content on one server is online and accessible to the readers. The copy of the same content is kept as a backup on as the OJS software makes weekly copies through LOCKSS and CLOCKS archiving systems. DOIs of the articles also ensure the durability of access through Crossref. The content of the journal is also available in open access in different databases such as REBID and DIALNET, which guarantees the preservation of content by more than one database.

Use of Interoperability Protocols

Encuentros en la Biología incorporates interoperability protocols that allow it to be harvested by other distribution systems, accessible through the electronic address.

The articles include meta tags in both Spanish and English, on the presentation page and in the articles.
