Contribution to the cariological study of the genus Rumex (Polygonaceae)

Eleven species of genus Rumex from West Andalusian have been studied. The following chromosome numbers are founded: R. angiocarpus Murb., n= 7 y 21, 2n= 42; R. roseus L. 2n= 20; R.induratus Boiss. & Reuter n= 20, 2n= 40; R. iruermedius Dc. 2n= 14, 2n= 15; R. thyrsoides Desf. 2n= 14, 2n= 15; R. crisp us L. 2n= 60; R. conglomeratus Murray n= 10, 2n= 20; R. pulcher L. n= 10, 2n= 20 y 40; R. palustris Sm. n= 30, 2n= 60; R. denta- tus L. 2n= 40; R. bucephalophorus L. n= 8, 2n= 16. Karyograms, idiogrammatic formulas as well as apparent size and the karyotype asimmetry for some species are included. The kar- yological characters allow the separation of five groups wich support, in general terms, the delimitation of the subgenus taked in consideration.
