Taxonomic study of the Padina Adanson (Dictyotaceae-Phaeophyta) genus on the litoral of the State of Bahia, Brazil

This study is part of a taxonomic survey of the benthic marine algae, carried out by Universidade Federal da Bahia. In Brasil exclusive taxonomic studies about that genus do not exist. Based on detailed morphological and anatomical analyses four taxa were recognized and illustrated: Padina antillaram (Kützing) Piccone, Padinaboergesenii Allender & Krafy, Padina. gymnospora(Ktüzing) Sonder e P. sanctae-crucis Børgesen. Reference to the original description, basionym, morphological description, geographical distribution along the Brazilian littoral, including map and taxonomical comments was presented for each taxon studied. Also dichotomic keys for identi fi cation for the species, as well as comparative tables for taxons are presented.
