Benth. A. iva s.
ABSTRACT. Micromorphology and anatomy of two Mediterranean species of Ajuga (Lamiaceae). A morphological and anatomical study of three Mediterranean taxa of Ajuga L. has been made; A. chamaepitys (L.) Schreb., A. iva (L.) Schreb. var iva and A. iva var pseudo-iva (DC.) Benth. A. iva s. I. has reticulate to alveolate nutlets, and A. chamaepitys has slightly crestate to transversaly reticulate nutlets. The presence of a thick isodiametric sclerenchymatic cell layer in the mesocarp show the phylogenetic relationship between this genus and Verbenaceae family. Also, a key to differentiate the three taxa is provided.
Key words. Nutlet, pericarp, morphology, anatomy, Ajuga, Ajugoideae.
