Author Guidelines

Acta Botanica Malacitana publishes, on an annual basis, original articles related to any field of Botany and Mycology.

The authors are responsible for the fact that the data included in the articles submitted have not been previously published in any scientific journal.

The manuscripts will be sent through the online platform of Acta Botanica Malacitana available at the following address: http://www.revistas.uma.es/index.php/abm

In order to process the sending of new manuscripts, it will be necessary to register previously on this platform at the following link: http://www.revistas.uma.es/index.php/abm/user/register

The entire process of sending, reviewing and publishing will be done online. Therefore, authors can track the status of their manuscripts at any time. Authors will indicate, where appropriate, the fixed section in which they wish to include their work: Articles Section or Notes Section (taxonomic, chorological, historical, ecological, phytosociological, biogeographic, etc.). The final decision regarding the inclusion in one of the two sections will depend on the Editorial Committee, as well as the advisors.

The manuscripts may be written in Spanish, English or French, provided that the following indications regarding the language are followed. The manuscript must be sent in text format (preferably Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer), never in PDF format. Therefore, the reviewers can highlight and control the changes when making modifications. Authors must use double spacing and the number of pages must not exceed 20 (except special cases). Pages and line must be numbered from the first to the last one. A standard font (Arial, Times New Roman, Symbol, Helvetica, Times) and a size of 12 points should be used. All figures and tables must be cited in the text and numbered consecutively in order of citation. Title, summary, keywords, as well as the captions of figures and tables, must be sent in two languages, at least one of which will be English.

Manuscripts sent to the Articles Section (standard format of scientific article) should be organized in the following sections: title, authors and affiliation (specifying the author for correspondence), summary (maximum 250 words), keywords, introduction, objectives, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgments and bibliography.

Manuscripts sent to the Notes Section will not necessarily follow this structure (see articles published in previous issues). This section is devoted to short articles on taxonomic, chorological, historical studies, etc. that can complete a previous investigation and / or do not justify the publication of a complete article. It requires a title, keywords and a brief summary (maximum of 100 words), objectives explanation and the main result of such note.

In both sections, figures and tables, together with their respective captions (written in the two languages used), should (each one) be placed on separate pages at the end of the document. The texts, numbers or symbols contained in the figures (mainly graphics and maps) should keep a sufficient size in order to avoid the need to increase the image on the screen. Tables must always be made in Microsoft Word table format, situated at the end of the manuscript, numbered and accompanied by their respective caption (above) and symbology or annotations (below). Black and white and colour photographs at high resolution (300 dots per inch) may be included, which must be in png or tiff format. Figure files must be sent to the journal platform (one png or tiff file per figure), even if these are included at the end of the manuscript.

Phytosociological tables and syntaxonomic schemes should follow the model presented in the latest volumes of the journal.

Names of the taxa and syntaxa should appear in italics, followed by the name of the author when they are first used in the text. In the manuscript, the examined material must be mentioned, as well as the herbarium / herbaria where the sheets of the material studied were deposited. In case of publication of a new taxa, a sheet of the type material of the taxon must be sent to the MGC Herbarium whose herbarium number will be required in the final publication of the article. The sending of this type may be omitted in duly justified situations.

Citations in the text will follow the format indicated below, depending on the number of authors: Aedo (2018), (Aedo, 2018), Winterfell & Devesa (2013), (Winterfell & Devesa, 2013), Tyberghein et al. (1991), (Tyberghein et al., 1991), (Ramírez et al., 1991; Tyberghein et al., 2012).

Bibliography will be alphabetically sorted and will be written as follow in accordance with the APA 2019 Version 6 standards. In all cases, regardless of the number of authors, the symbol "&" and not "y" will be used before the last author:

The reviewers will always be external to the journal's Editorial Committee. The manuscripts accepted by the reviewers will be sent to the authors for performing, if applicable, the (major or minor) modifications suggested. The modified manuscripts should be returned to the Editorial Committee within a maximum period of one month before their final acceptance.

Authors may suggest to the Editorial Committee the names of two possible external reviewers for their manuscript, including their affiliation, address, email and a brief justification. Members of the same research team will not be accepted as reviewers.
