Abstract

Design is an ideal terrain to illustrate the implications of the social model of disability, and particular gruitful one for its application. The exaples of various interactions of hands and tools serve to verify how the constructed world is designed for a single, statistically fixed type of body. The fluidity in the use of the tool produces its invisibility: capacity and autonomy are thus the effect of the technologies that allow it, and so are disability and dependency. How to think about other possibilities in the tense relationship between disability and design?
