Abstract

Manuel Pazos (Santander, 1975) is a retro video game developer who, in 2016, after two years of development, launched Extensum with Daniel Celemín, La abadía del crimen (The Abbey of Crime). This is a reinterpretation and expansion of Paco Menéndez and Juan Delcán's 1987 video game, which includes elements from the video game itself, Umberto Eco's novel (Il nome della rosa) and Jean-Jacques Annaud's film (Der Name der Rose). However, it was published non-profit and can be downloaded for free on their website and platforms such as Steam. Extensum was very well received upon its launch and continues to be a subject of interest today, having accumulated nearly 218,000 downloads, and continues to be the subject of interest in international media and academic research due to the unique nature of its conception and development, as well as initiatives to translate it into various languages.
