Translation, conflict and symbolic violence

This dossier researches the role which has historically been and
which is currently being played by translation and interpreting
in real contexts marked by either overt or covert hostilities and
conflicts, and in societies in which subjectivities, ideologies and
cultures do not merely coexist and dialogue, but also clash and
compete at the symbolic level of texts and representations. In this regard, it includes articles that analyze the relationship between translation and conflict in war contexts as well as in highly politicized symbolic scenarios. This collection of articles contributes to new avenues in translation theory and practice which depart from an awareness of the enormous complexities in every approach to the Other and every intercultural transfer. Thus, it provides new perspectives which aid professionals and researchers in their efforts to honour incontestable expectations, including professionalism, responsibility and ethical commitment.
