Abstract

In the current economic context, achieving maximum efficiency is a key issue for companies. Classical methods analysing efficiency, such as Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) are often not able to provide the companies’ managers enough information about the efficiency of their companies as those methods classify the decision units into only two groups, efficient and inefficient. Managers demand more information on the efficiency of their companies in order to be able to compare themselves with other firms and to know their relative position within the group of efficient or inefficient firms. This paper presents a fuzzy logic based approach which complements the classical DEA models allowing, by means of the concept of fuzzy super-efficiency, the attainment of an order for the companies firstly classified as efficient. The practical applicability of the proposed approach is illustrated with a real example in the field of textile firms
