Abstract

A Byzantine treatise edited by Fr. Boll (1908) is a noteworthy witness about Greek Chiromancy. Its importance is very relevant given that we have no documents
from Hellenistic and Roman imperial times about this subject, while a flourishing literature corresponds to Middle-Latin and notoriously to Anglo-Norman palmistry. The present edition is founded on a new manuscript (Laur. 28.13) and newly considered relations of medieval tradition. This writing shows a relevant link with divinatory pseudo-sciences of Byzantine times, with astrology as well as with palmomancy, the method by examining twitches of the human body, and omoplatomancy, a series of prophecies drawn from the the bones of the shoulder-blade of a victim.
