Abstract

It can be assumed that the protagonists of the Gnostic texts are the Archons, mythical beings who manipulate the human mind and modify its perception. To gain a better comprehension of their astral nature, within the Nag Hammadi Library several texts mention a particular type of sources. More precisely, they make reference to a group of irretrievably lost books, whose Hermetic and Magic content can be reconstructed only through comparative hypotheses. Among these texts, the Book of Solomon has a great posterity and can be seen as the archetype of all the treatises dealing with Salomonic magic. One of these  precious books, which we have found in a Greek manuscript codex belonging to the National University Library of Turin (Ms. C. VII. 15: Opuscula varia astronomica), is the nearest inspirational source of Medieval magical grimoires.
