Abstract

We discuss P.Ryl. 63, which consists in an astrological dialogue between the Athenian philosopher Plato and the Egyptian prophet (magician, astrologer) Peteesis, formed in Heliopolis. The papyrus is an exceptional “melothesian text”, which relates not only planets but also the zodiacal signs with various parts of the human body. This study attends to reconstruct two lost lines at the beginning of the papyrus; and we also suggest the identification of the prophet Peteesis with the magician Petese, very well known by the demotic papyri from the collection Calsberg edited and studied by K. Ryholt
