Sexist attitudes among young university students: Influence of family and relationship context

Abstract

In recent years, gender studies have focused on the evolution of traditional forms of sexism. Youth is pointed out, in this sense, as the main agent of change; However, the contexts of social development in which it operates have a fundamental role in the learning of sexist behaviors and attitudes and in the acceptance or not of such behaviors. This work proposes an exploratory analysis of the new forms of sexism in youth and its relationship with variables of family and couple context. First, it analyzes the sexist attitudes of young people, defining profiles according to the type of sexism detected; Secondly, it analyzes the influence of the parental educational style and the quality of the sentimental relationship in the assumption of sexist beliefs.
