L’articolo prendendo in considerazione il dominio romano sull’Oriente e in specie sulla Siria analizza e propone prima fonti e dati sulle tecniche d’assedio e sulle caratteristiche degli eserciti romano e sasanide riguardo la fortezza di Dura Europos, ed in seguito tenta una ricostruzione della caduta della città prendendo a parallelo letterario le analogie nella caduta di Amida (IV d.C.) descritte dallo storico Ammiano Marcellino e che si ritroverebbero nelle rilevanze archeologiche del sito durano.
