Teacher education regarding the specificities of schools located in rural areas becomes necessary and crucial in order to confront the biased, victimized, and distorted image that is disseminated in the media, neoconservative educational policies, and teaching manuals. Part of the change lies in including the reality of these schools in the training plans for Early Childhood Education and Primary Education degrees, with the aim of equipping future teachers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable them to develop connected and coherent educational practices in each rural territory's context. This should be approached from three perspectives: organizational, pedagogical-curricular, and sociocultural. The sustainability of rural territories partly depends on the professional exercise of teachers who can contribute to the rootedness and retention of the population, thus preventing the phenomenon of depopulation in Spain.
