About the Journal

The European Journal of Family Business (EJFB) was founded in 2011 under the name of Revista de Empresa Familiar*, as an initiative of the Santander Chair in Family Firms at the University of Malaga (Spain). In 2016, the journal changed its name to *European Journal of Family Business and has published its content in English since then. The University of Malaga is the publisher of EJFB.

EJFB is a diamond open-access journal devoted to publishing internationally relevant, practice-oriented research on entrepreneurial families, business-owning families, family business, and related fields. EJFB aims to build bridges between scholars and practitioners by publishing original research with practical relevance. Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts to shed new light on contemporary challenges in the broad domain of family business.

EJFB accepts manuscripts for evaluation in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. However, only manuscripts in English are published. If the manuscript is submitted in another language, authors commit to providing an English translation upon acceptance.

Digital Preservation policy

EJFB ensures the long-term preservation and accessibility of its digital content through a combination of institutional infrastructure, distributed archiving systems, and international indexing services. These measures ensure the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of the journal’s scholarly content in accordance with international best practices.

All electronic content (including the journal website, manuscripts, and metadata) is stored on secure servers. The primary version is accessible online, while backup copies are regularly generated and maintained to ensure content integrity and availability.

The journal’s preservation strategy includes the following measures:

Website Archiving

All journal content is hosted on secure servers and backed up regularly through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Backup copies are maintained to prevent data loss and ensure continuous access.

Distributed Archiving Systems

EJFB participates in recognized digital preservation initiatives:

  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), supported by Open Journal Systems, ensures that multiple distributed copies of the journal content are preserved across participating libraries.
  • CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) provides long-term preservation through a distributed dark archive. In the event that the content is no longer available from the publisher, CLOCKSS ensures open access to the archived material.

These systems guarantee redundancy, integrity, and long-term accessibility of published content.

Persistent Identifiers

All articles published in EJFB are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) through Crossref. DOIs provide a persistent and reliable means of identification and access, ensuring long-term retrievability of the content.

Abstracting and Indexing Services

EJFB is indexed in several databases and platforms (e.g., Dialnet, RePEc), which store essential metadata and, in some cases, full-text versions of the articles. These services contribute to the preservation and dissemination of the journal’s content by providing additional access points for the scientific community

Institutional Repository

The journal’s content is also preserved in the institutional repository of the University of Malaga (RIUMA), ensuring long-term access through institutional infrastructure.

Self-Archiving

Authors are permitted and encouraged to archive both the accepted and published versions of their articles in institutional or subject repositories.

  • Accepted version: Authors should clearly indicate that the manuscript has been accepted for publication in EJFB and include full bibliographic information.
  • Published version: The final published version may be shared, provided that complete citation details and the DOI link are included.

Metadata and Interoperability

EJFB supports interoperability through the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting), enabling the harvesting of metadata and full-text content.

Metadata for all published articles is available in Dublin Core format via the journal’s OAI-PMH endpoint: https://revistas.uma.es/index.php/ejfb/oai

Additional Preservation Mechanisms

The journal’s inclusion in multiple databases and repositories, together with distributed archiving systems and DOI assignment, ensures that content remains accessible even in the event of journal discontinuation.

EJFB is also registered in the Keepers Registry, which monitors digital preservation arrangements (updates are performed periodically).
