Information for reviewers

The studies and articles received in Contrastes. Revista Internacional de Filosofía are submitted to a blind refereeing process by two external evaluators . The reviewers are selected according to a criterion of academic and research excellence, and taking into consideration that their field of specialization corresponds to the topics addressed in each of the articles. Their work is essential to guarantee the excellence of the scientific publication, due to the blind review based exclusively on the quality of the contents of the manuscripts. It is the best guarantee and the best guarantee for the advancement of science and to preserve an original and valuable scientific production.

The evaluation of manuscripts by national and international experts and is the fundamental key to select the articles with the highest impact for the scientific community. This review also allows authors to have objective reports on the strengths and weaknesses of their manuscripts once they are assessed for evaluation, under external criteria.

All reviews in Contrastes. Revista Internacional de Filosofía use the internationally standardized system of peer review by “double blind” that guarantees the anonymity of the manuscripts, audited within the “OJS” (Open Journal System), generating between two and three reports for each manuscript.

The Journal publishes the list of peer reviewers once a year on its official website (available at the end of this section).

Criteria for acceptance/rejection of revised manuscripts
Contrastes. Revista Internacional de Filosofía requests the collaboration of external reviewers to facilitate the communication with the authors of the manuscripts. The acceptance of the evaluation of an article entails:

-Academic knowledge and experience on the subject of the manuscript. Therefore, this necessarily implies that the authors must have a firm knowledge of the subject of the article.
-Availability. The review of an article requires time from dedication to evaluate it.

-Conflict of interest. A conflict of interest may occur as a result of closeness or hostility to authors if the reviewer identifies them even though their names have been removed from the manuscript. Reviewers should declare any conflict of interest and decline the invitation of the editors to evaluate a manuscript when, for example: they identify the authorship of the manuscript, they are familiarly close to the authors, they belong to the same educational institution, research group, professional network, research project, have published articles with the author, or any other type of connection or conflict. In this case, the reviewer should decline the offer of the editorial board to review the article.

-Confidentiality commitment. The reviewer must maintain strict confidentiality in the evaluation of a manuscript and must not disclose its contents to third parties. If the reviewer wishes to obtain a second opinion on the article, he/she should consult with the management team, whose approval is necessary for the manuscript to be sent to a second reviewer.

Functions of the external reviewers
The task of the external reviewer is to provide a critical analysis constructive of the content of the manuscript, to collaborate with the editorial board in the evaluation of the article, indicating the scientific value and whether it meets the standards of excellence of the journal to be accepted and published.

The reviewers' opinion is vital to achieve the originality of the article and the excellence that is intended to be achieved.

Ethical issues
If a reviewer believes that the article is a faithful copy of another work, he/she should notify the editors, providing detailed citations of the previous work.

If there is a real or remote suspicion that the results of the article are false or fraudulent, reviewers should also notify the editorial board.

General criteria for manuscript review
Title. It should be representative and as concise as possible. It should be written both in the language in which the article is written and in English.

Abstract. It should be included in Spanish or the language in which the article is written (it should be between 150 and 200 words) and then translated into English. The abstract should be structured, present the research hypothesis and advance the main results that are collected in the manuscript.

Key words. The abstract should be followed by 3 to 5 keywords or descriptors, expressed in Spanish and English. The authors will use keywords or internationally accepted terms in the field of education to express concepts and contents, extracted from the ERIC Thesaurus (Education Resources Information Center).
