ABSTRACT
The paper critiques the liberal foundation of democracy. For two reasons: the first, because of the imposible defense of a neutral model of the state; and the second, because of the individualist element both of its epistemology and of its moral and political phiosophy, that reduces significantly the emancipatory chances of the democratic project. Lastly, it points out that these basic features of the liberal foundation even remain in one the versions of liberalism more akin to constitutional democracy: John Rawls' political liberalism.
