The dramatic art lives in a certain tension between the world of the play, to which dialogue and spirit are proper, and the world of the spectator, to which contemplation and the natural are proper. This tension constitutes, in turn, the “stage space”. This “staging” of the tension and distance that constitute the stage space “illuminates” Buber’s development of the political space; so that the latter is also constituted in the tension and distance between the categories of relational dependence and individual independence, categories that we understand as analogous to the former of the “stage space”. We can base this analogy on the fact that the categories named participate in a common analogate, that is, I-You and I-It. For this reason, Buber develops his proposal on the dramatic theatre and the scenic space in the categories of play-spectator and make possible to illuminate his proposal, precisely, on political space.
