RESUMEN
Este artículo analiza el concepto de "oportunidades de vida" propuesto opr Ralf Dahrendorf, crucial para entender la dimensión social del liberalismo. A pesar de su interés para la teoría social y los debates normativos, la propuesto de Dahrendorf se revela especialmente insuficiente en lo que concierne al segundo componente, la noción de ligaduras; como queda el manifiesto al comparar su interpretación con más recientes líneas de investigación en ciencias sociales, especialmente en torno al capital social.

ABTRACT
This paper analyses the concept of "life chances" used by Ralf Dahrendorf, which is crucially important for the understanding of social dimension of liberalism. In spite of its interest for the social theory and normative discussions, Dahrendorf´s approach is particularly insufficient regardind "ligatures", the second component of the concept, as the comparison between his interpretation and the recent research in social sciences about social capital makez clear.
