Abstract

The study of the population, together with its singular characteristics, in North African Spanish enclaves reveals the paucity of Census references from which to trace its evolution. The “Floridablanca Census” in 1787 is possibly one of the few documents from which these enclaves can be studied in detail. The task of classifying some basic problems which appear in the I.N.E. records provides a means of definying these populations at that very interesting political when, as a result of restructuring, Spain gave up some of them.
