Abstract

In this article the different roles played by the areas of the city in their recent, demographic evolution are approached. Our starting point is an outstanding occurence, the growth of Malaga between 1981 and 1989, and the relationship which exists between the growth of the population and the areas in the process of expansion and urban renovation. Our aims is to characterize the dynamics of the population in each area, analysing the structure of the population that resides there. For this purpose, and taking the 1989 census as a basis, a series of population characteristics at the level of urban division are examined via an principal components analysis.
