Abstract

Drug use is on the rise among the younger population, despite prevention efforts. Furthermore, interventions in this area are hampered in rural areas by limited access to resources and services.
For this reason, this research, of a qualitative nature, is carried out in two small towns in the province of Huelva, and is aimed at young people between 14 and 18 years old. The study tries to know the prevalence of the consumption of tobacco, alcohol and cannabis; the average age of initiation of use; the consumption of fathers / mothers, partners, friends and teachers of the educational center as risk and / or protection factors; and the impact of information on drugs received through different sources.
It aims to obtain the reasons for the increase of these addictive substances in the target population and proposals for improvement for future interventions.
As a most noteworthy conclusion, there is the lack of references that inform and raise awareness about drug use, highlighting the figure of the professional in Health Social Work as a reliable source for the target population.
