Abstract

Angaro is an interdisciplinary performance produced by Pieles, a Canarian music and drama troupe, in which geographical constraints and boundaries are blurred, and music and instruments from afar, both in space and time, are perceived as one’s own. In looking back to the past and exploring the world of our ancestors, the reaction to the myriad subtleties shared between different ethnic groups worldwide is one of surprise; what we claim today as ours, already existed elsewhere. For this reason, Pieles views Angaro as an instrument to bring together the five continents —moved by a sense of global belonging— through traditional and popular music from here and elsewhere.
