La metamorfosis de las sirenas: a propósito de un libro reciente

Abstract

In relation to the new book of García Gual Sirenas. Seducciones y metamorfosis, this paper discusses the transformation of the Sirens from the Graeco-Roman woman-bird to the Medieval woman-fish (Mermaids); this new iconographic scheme has driven the ancient model in the modern collective imagination, likewise the erotic interpretation of the Sirenas has replaced the original funerary simbolism.
