Aiming at a comparative study of Anthropology in Kant and Hegel, we begin by arguing that the Anthropology constitutes an expressive and imaginative dimension of the Kantian system of reason. It is shown that Kant’s Anthropology draws on a type of dialectic of opposites that is broadly comparable to the Hegelian model, anticipating issues such as sociability and the “cunning of reason,” as well as the question of sexual difference. The study of the relationship between culture and morality finally makes it possible to define the conception of habit as an essential divergence between the two authors, which persists beyond the convergences.
