Abstract

Since behind all pedagogy there is an epistemology and a metaphysics, this critical note presents the argument that the characteristic features of active pedagogies are identified with an idealistic philosophy, which privileges thought, immanent activity, as well as the development of skills (generic, cognitive and socio-emotional), while a realistic pedagogy is based on philosophical realism, which starts from the knowledge of reality, as well as the capacity of the person to know it. This critical note argues in favor of realistic pedagogy as one in which the person can know reality, access the truth and transcend.
