Abstract

The character of Orion is an exceptional paradigm of the conjunction of sexuality and astrology in the Greek mythological sources. Endowed with an uncontrolled sexual appetite contra legem inherited perhaps from the moment of its divine, triseminal and extrauterine conception, the giant hunter also enjoyed a certain astrological prerogative. This paper analyzes the possible causes of the poor metapoetic exploitation that this proverbial character had in the collection of Sufferings in Love of Parthenius of Nicaea (Parth. 20).
